Fence and deck rules by municipality

Oakville's private tree bylaw is the one that most often changes a plan here, because it applies before any digging near a protected trunk and a fence line through mature trees usually has to be hand dug. Escarpment and conservation land runs through Halton Hills and parts of Milton, and projects inside those areas need the agency's approval as well as the town's.

Heights are the maximums each municipality publishes. Corner lots, pool enclosures and sloped ground can change what applies, so we confirm the rules for your address before we build. See the fence height bylaw guide for the full GTA picture.

Halton Region deck and fence questions

Do you charge more to work in Halton Region?
No. Pricing is driven by the size of the job, the material and the site, not the postcode. We build across Halton Region and the rest of the GTA at the same rates.
Is the fence height limit the same across Halton Region?
No, and that is the most common surprise. Each municipality sets its own limits and they differ inside the same region. The table above gives the numbers we work to, and we confirm them against your specific lot before building.
