Pressure-treated or cedar for a fence?
Pressure-treated lumber costs less and is very durable once sealed. Cedar costs more, weighs less and has a natural colour many people prefer. Both last longest with good posts and occasional sealing.
How tall can a backyard wood fence be?
In many GTA cities the limit for rear and side yard fences is around 2 m, with lower limits in front yards. Check the city page for your area or ask us to confirm for your address.
Should the posts be wood or metal?
Wood posts set in concrete are the most common. Steel posts with wood boards are an option where you want extra strength or longer post life. We'll suggest what fits your fence height and soil.
How long before I can stain a new wood fence?
New pressure-treated wood usually needs time to dry before it will take stain well. The stain maker's directions and a simple water drop test tell you when it's ready.
