The rules are not the same across the three. Brampton needs a building permit for any deck attached to the house, no matter how low it sits, which catches a lot of people replacing a ground-level deck off a walkout. Caledon allows a taller front yard fence than most of the GTA on non-subdivision lots, and parts of it fall under conservation authority or Niagara Escarpment rules that need their own approval.
