What we built
The yard started as grass, tired beds and a fence line that did nothing for privacy. The whole thing came out.
Horizontal boards are the reason this fence looks like it does, and they are also the reason it has to be built properly. Boards running sideways put every joint on the posts, so the posts have to be dead plumb and evenly spaced or the lines telegraph across the whole run. Vertical pickets hide a multitude of sins. Horizontal boards hide none.
Six feet, pressure-treated, about 140 linear feet in total, with two gates worked into the run so the side and rear access still work.
With the fence up, the yard was graded, a compacted base went in and the patio was laid, with raised beds along the fence line and planting to finish. One crew, one schedule, rather than a fence company and a landscaper working around each other.
